VP of European Operations
CUSP continues its strategic global expansion with the grand opening of its Munich Research and Development Center, a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as the company's European innovation hub for next-generation automotive navigation technologies.
The 45,000-square-meter campus, located in Munich's growing technology corridor, houses 120 specialized engineers focused on HD map creation, sensor fusion algorithms, and autonomous driving perception systems. The facility represents a 180 million euro investment over three years and is expected to generate significant employment growth in the region.
"Europe represents one of our most strategically important markets," said Markus Weber, VP of European Operations. "By establishing a dedicated R&D presence here, we can work side-by-side with our OEM partners, understand their specific requirements faster, and deliver solutions optimized for European road networks and regulatory frameworks."
The Munich center features specialized testing laboratories including a full-scale vehicle-in-the-loop simulation environment, a high-definition mapping data processing pipeline capable of handling 10 petabytes of raw sensor data daily, and collaborative workspace designed for agile development teams.
Current projects at the facility include next-generation HD map compression algorithms that reduce data storage requirements by 40%, real-time map update systems leveraging crowd-sourced vehicle data, and sensor fusion solutions specifically calibrated for European highway and urban driving characteristics.
The expansion brings CUSP's total global R&D footprint to eight centers across four continents, with over 2,400 engineers working on connected vehicle technologies. The Munich facility is expected to grow to 200 employees by 2027.
